Why Superior Walls are Better than Pour-in-Place Concrete Foundations

We know you’re probably very familiar with pour-in-place concrete foundations and you might not know much about all this precast, prefab concrete business. But Superior Walls products give builders better value than pour-in-place foundations for about the same full cycle price.

Here’s why:

Our products are made of high quality concrete.
Our walls are consistently hitting 45-50 MPA after about 29 days.  We perform break tests on every batch to confirm this. Traditional pour-in-place is typically 28-33 MPA, which, as you might notice, means they’re not as strong.

Water resistant concrete makes for better basements.
Our concrete has a higher density than pour-in-place which makes it extremely water resistant. That’s a great way to help mitigate the problems of damp, musty and cold basements, none of which seem to be very popular with customers.

We’re fully insulated, not partially insulated.
In Superior Walls products, the insulation wraps around all external surfaces of the cement walls. Which means you get superior (ahem) insulation coverage compared to traditional pour-in-place. We’re talking R-23 (RSI effective – 19.21), but up to an additional 4” of insulation can be added with no modifications to existing wall.

Faster installations are better than slower installations.
Superior Walls can be installed on a typical house in under 8 hours. That saves you time and money vs pour-in-place which we think you’ll agree is a good thing.

You can install all year round – and save money all year round too.
Ah, those western Canadian winters. They can really slow down the building process. But because Superior Walls are cured in the factory prior to shipping, no heating and hoarding is required during winter construction (or summer construction for that matter).  This greatly reduces costs, typically around $6k-$8k per house. It also gives you flexibility with your construction timetables.

You can use gravel footing for walls to save money and improve drainage.

That kinda says it all. Gravel footing is about half the price of traditional concrete footing and besides improving drainage, it also reduces hydrostatic pressure on the foundation walls.  And there’s no need for heating and hording during the winter.

Our walls are superior in quality, which is why they’re called Superior Walls.
Our walls are custom-engineered to your specifications. They’re also manufactured in a climate-controlled factory, so the assembly process is consistent and all rebar is placed to give the wall assembly maximum strength, including a uniform load of 7,500 lbs. per linear foot.

Your finishing costs and time are reduced.
The outsides of our walls are pre-finished at the factory, so there’s no need for parging. And the inside of our walls have galvanized steel plates where drywall can be directly fastened. That means there’s no need to construct a wood wall or vapor barrier. Less time and less costs seems to be a running theme here, doesn’t it?

Our products come with a 10-year guarantee.
That’s aligned with the new home warranty in Alberta. Plus, our walls are always installed by a factory certified installation crew. We stand behind our products. Always have. Always will.
